About Tiger Mountain InnovationsFounded in 2003, Tiger Mountain Innovations (TMI) produces environmentally friendly composite surfaces Squak Mountain Stone™ and Trinity Glass Products™ – used for countertops, tabletops, floor and wall tiles, and vessel sinks. TMI’s products satisfy the desire for a natural stone appearance without the negative environmental impacts. Each product is handcrafted using locally-sourced, recycled materials. Squak Mountain Stone, resembling soapstone or limestone, is comprised of recycled paper, coal fly ash and crushed glass, mixed with low-carbon cement. Trinity Glass Products are made from recycled glass mixed with cement, offering a more polished look with small particulates, similar to granite. From garage experiment to reality Based in Woodinville, Wash., Tiger Mountain Innovations was founded by Ameé Quiriconi who was inspired to create Squak Mountain Stone while working on a graduate school project. For Ameé, the assignment turned into a business venture, and employing her knowledge in engineering, construction and research, she perfected the composition of Squak Mountain Stone in her garage using coffee cans and spring-form baking pans. In 2004, Ameé enlisted the aid of an old friend who helped her get the business off the ground. She also partnered with LinkUp, a county-government program that assists companies that use recyclables to create new products. In 2007, Ameé created Trinity Glass Products in order to offer distributors, retailers and the building community a fuller suite of well-respected, environmentally friendly surface products. Tiger Mountain Innovations now occupies a 7,000-square-foot shop and as of September 2007, have produced more than 11,000 square feet of countertop surfaces. Its products are sold through independent retailers across the country. Environmentally-responsible product and process Each handmade Squak Mountain Stone surface contains more than 50 percent post-industrial and post-consumer recycled content; Trinity Glass Products contain 75 percent post-industrial and post-consumer recycled glass.
